Mike’s guitar collection is his pride and joy, and he wanted a dedicated space where he could display and play them in comfort.

His wish-list included a light and airy feel, soundproofing and climate control to keep his guitars safe from humidity and extreme temperatures.

Since we’re specialists in Garden Room design and construction, we were able to meet and exceed all of his expectations, and designed this high-security, air-conditioned, soundproof studio exactly as he wanted it.

For the exterior Mike chose composite cladding in Nut Brown, a 3 metre bi-fold door and two 700 x 450m horizontal opening windows and recessed external spotlights.

On the inside, we split the Garden Room into three spaces; the studio, an office area and a hangout space.

Once the walls were plastered we painted the interior in Farrow & Ball “Stiffkey Blue” and “Pointing”. The recessed internal lights have dimmer switches and we fitted a TV aerial.

The exterior was finished off with a sandstone path from the Garden Room to the house.

Access to Mike’s back garden was tricky – the only way to avoid going through his house was to go through his neighbour’ garden. Thankfully Mike has a good relationship with his neighbour and allowed us access. To minimise inconvenience, we made sure all the big deliveries were made on the same day and that after each day’s work the Team made sure the neighbour’s garden was made fully secure. After the build we replaced all of the fencing.

Mike is delighted with the result, the impact that it’s had on his lifestyle, and the fact that no planning permission was needed.
