Steve and Lucy initially contacted us to build an extension to their home in Grove, Wantage. They had been referred to us by another happy customer, so we arranged a meeting to discuss the way forward.

The extension would give them more living and kitchen space, but Steve wanted room for his favourite hobby – playing pool.

So we set about designing and budgeting a massive 6×5 metre Garden Room to accommodate his wishes – complete with his own beer fridge and neon light!

Steve’s Garden room was a little problematic because he wanted to go as close to the boundary fence as possible. In normal circumstances you can only build a 30m² garden Room within 1 metre of a boundary, so we had to have a rethink.

Our design team submitted a Building Control specification that used Hardie Plank fireproof boards, which enabled us to build the Garden room only half a metre from the boundary whilst still keeping a contemporary grey look. Steve was happy because he could maximise the space inside his Garden Room whilst keeping on the right side of the local Building Control officer, who signed off our designs.

It quickly became apparent that the garden was going to be ruined during the build, so we also designed a complete new back garden with artificial grass and a lovely new porcelain patio. We also replaced all the rear fences with a 6ft close board system.

Working our way backwards, we then started on the single-storey rear home extension that covered the entire back of the house, extending both the living room and the kitchen. All building work on the house extension was completed by the New Home Improvement Group. We completed all the interior and external work including the fully-fitted kitchen with bifold doors looking out onto the landscaped garden in around 12 weeks.

Steve, Lucy, the family and even the dog are all now enjoying their lovely new spaces, which have added huge value to their home life.
