Our Green Commitment

How Green Is Your Garden Room?

Currently, the answer is:fairly

But that’s going to improve a lot during the coming years.

We’ve signed up to Race To Zero and are seeking to reduce the carbon footprint of all our materials and operations.

“The problem is that a lot of companies do this as a box-ticking exercise to get PR and win business, but they’re not not really living it.

It occurred to me recently, whilst talking to my grandchildren, that they are taught at a very early age about the damage we’re doing to our planet.

However, it seems that most big businesses are waiting for government to tell them what they need to do to comply with whatever national response has been agreed.

It appears that they hope that smaller companies will look at what larger firms are doing, then somehow try to do our bit.

Our Green Commitment

That’s not my experience. Over the years I’ve been in many boardrooms where directors pay lip-service to green initiatives simply to qualify for a tender or because their clients are pressuring them to – not because they believe it’s the right thing to do.

I believe it’s time for smaller businesses to be leaders and not followers, and as Managing Director it falls upon me to keep our company ahead of the curve in all areas.

So we’re looking at every corner of the business and are in discussion with experts to work out how we can operate in a more earth-friendly way, including adopting paperless processes and using electric vehicles.

Our Lead Designer, James Eyres, is extremely passionate about environmental issues and is now also our Green Ambassador. We’ll be auditing ourselves on a monthly basis, reporting back on progress and publishing changes as they happen.

Over the next few years, I hope I’ll be able to look my grandchildren in the eye and tell them what we’ve done to safeguard their future.”

Darren Field, Managing Director

Our Green Commitment

Here’s what we’re doing to reduce our (and your) Carbon Footprint.

  1.  We intend to ensure that all the materials we use are entirely recyclable.
Our composite is FSC certified, so the wood used is from well managed and sustainable forests. The wood content is recycled eucalyptus wood flour. The plastic element is made entirely from recycled material and generates no new plastic.
  2.  We are working on a no-concrete, weight-bearing suspended base, using a recyclable heavy-duty grid filled with local stone.
That means no more big concrete lorries and pumps and no more huge slabs of non-permeable concrete in your garden.
Our Structural Engineer will be testing the first one on his own Garden Room project and we’re very hopeful that it will be a success.
  3. We plan to move all cars and vans to electric powered vehicles in the next two years.
  4. We’ve set a goal to procure all materials from within a 45 mile radius of our yard.
  5. We’re currently on the lookout for partners to provide Green Roofs and more planting around our Garden Rooms.
  6.  We’ll soon be paperless, using tablets to access records and processes
  7.  We intend to offset any remaining carbon footprint entirely by working with partners on planting initiatives.

The SME Climate Commitment

Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:

  • Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
  • Achieve net zero emissions before 2050

In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission.
